Round Dining Tables

A round table keeps everyone within reach, so the whole family can eat and talk together. Son&Bear round dining tables come in two kinds: fixed rounds from 0.8 to 1.4 metres across, and round extendables that open from their everyday shape into a full round when guests come.

Fixed rounds and round extendables

Our fixed round tables stand on pedestal bases, so every chair pulls in the same way. The Hara sits on a single fluted drum, the Laura on three oval columns and the Ori on three fluted columns.

Each round extendable dining table, the Alvi, Levi, Lila, Linus, Lior and Nora, opens from an everyday shape into a full round, from 1.2 to 1.6 metres across. Closed, the Levi is an oval and the others have straight sides and rounded ends. They also appear on our extendable dining tables page.

Choosing the size

A round table fits a corner where a rectangle would not, so it suits an HDB flat or a condominium. Seating depends on the size. As a guide, with your chairs, fixed rounds seat two to three at 0.8 metres, two to four at 0.9 metres, four at 1.0 or 1.1 metres, four to five at 1.2 metres, five to six at 1.3 metres and six at 1.4 metres. The round extendables seat four to five at 1.2 metres, five to six at 1.3 or 1.35 metres, seven to eight at 1.5 metres and nine to ten at 1.6 metres. Leave about 900 mm behind each chair for someone to walk past.

Tops and finishes

Apart from the Alvi, which is solid ash only, every round table comes with a top in sintered stone or solid ash. On a round sintered stone dining table, the top resists heat, stains and scratches and wipes clean in a single pass, while solid ash can be sanded back and re-oiled rather than replaced. Our dining tables page explains how to choose between the two. Every base is solid ash in six finishes, and in Build Your Table you can design your own round on the Hara, Laura or Ori base. Questions people ask

What size round dining table do I need for four or six people?

Seating depends on the size. As a guide, with your chairs, a 1.0 or 1.1-metre round seats four, a 1.2-metre round four to five, a 1.3-metre round five to six and a 1.4-metre round six, and our round extendables seat nine to ten at 1.6 metres. Your chairs and how much elbow room you like decide the real number, so allow about 900 mm behind each chair and check the centimetre dimensions on each product page against your room. For a round extendable, plan the room around the opened size.

How does a round extendable dining table work?

Closed, it keeps an everyday shape: an oval in the Levi, and straight sides with softly rounded ends in the Alvi, Lila, Linus, Lior and Nora. Opened, it becomes a full round: the 1.2-metre Alvi, for example, measures 120 by 77 cm closed and opens into a 120 cm round. In the Alvi, the two half-tops part around a centre leaf that is kept in the table, and the change takes under a minute in either direction, while in the Lior, two crescent leaves swing out and the centre section joins them. Each is also offered in a Non-Extendable version, fixed at its everyday size.

Can I have a round sintered stone dining table?

Yes. The Hara, Laura, Ori, Levi, Lila, Linus, Lior and Nora all come with a top in sintered stone or solid ash, and only the Alvi is solid ash alone. Sintered stone resists heat, stains and scratches and wipes clean in a single pass, in designs that run from calm, pale surfaces to clearly veined stone. To look after the top, wipe stone clean, and wipe solid ash with a barely damp cloth, dry it straight after and re-oil it as needed.

Can I design my own round dining table?

Yes. In Build Your Table, our live 3D studio, you can choose a circle, set the diameter from 0.8 to 1.4 metres, pick a top in solid ash or sintered stone, and set it on one of our three pedestal bases, the Hara, Laura or Ori, in any of six wood finishes. When you are happy with the design, bring it to our showroom with your floor plan, and our team will go through every detail with you.

What warranty comes with a round dining table?

Every Son&Bear dining table, round or rectangular, fixed or extendable, comes with a 1 Year Limited Warranty. It covers repair or replacement if a manufacturing defect in materials or workmanship appears in normal use within the first year. Misuse and normal wear and tear, such as scratches, watermarks and food stains, are not covered, and neither are marks from hot objects placed directly on a wood top, so keep a trivet nearby. The full terms are on our warranty page.
